Buying a plot of land is much more than a financial transaction. One needs to know about the energies that permeate the land. This article covers various factors that are considered while selecting a plot from the Vastu perspective be it for a home, office, industry, or an investment.

Method 1: Water Test

Dig a pit 45 cm wide x 45 cm long x 45 cm deep (18″ x 18″ x 18″) and fill it with water. Watch the water for three minutes. If the ground soaks the water and leaves it 15 cm or less, the land is of poor quality and should be avoided. The remaining water is 30 cm deep then, it is medium quality. If there are no other options, one may consider purchasing the plot. If the soil only marginally absorbs the water, it is the best kind of plot and should be purchased.

  • The movement of water in the pit clockwise indicates a positive movement of energy in the land. If the water is not well absorbed by the soil and moves clockwise, such a plot should be purchased even if it is more expensive.
  • If the water flows anticlockwise, the land experiences negative energy flow, and the inhabitants suffer losses, failures, accidents, or even premature death. A plot like this should be avoided.

Method 2: Seed Germination Evaluation

Basil seeds are scattered on the ground, watered, and allowed to flourish. Basil is an auspicious plant that can only grow on land that has positive energy. If these seeds germinate, the land contains positive energy; if they do not germinate, the land should be avoided.

Method 3: Smell-Taste-Colour Evaluation

Pick some soil from below and remove the top layer of soil. If it smells like decomposed organic matter, the land has negative energy. A good plot always has a sweet soft smell to it. Vastu has classified soil into four categories based on its colour and taste.

  • White soil that tastes and smells good is suitable for intellectuals such as teachers, preachers, artists, poets, musicians, intellectuals, writers, software professionals, consultants, analysts, and so on.
  • Red soil with a strong smell and bitter taste is ideal for those working in legal justice, administration, and the maintenance of law and order. This category includes government employees, public servants, members of the armed forces, police officers, administrators, and others.
  • Yellowish or greenish soil with a light smell and sour taste suits businessmen, bankers, sharebrokers, and all those involved in commercial and financial activities.
  • Everyone prefers black, dark soil with a bitter taste and pungent odour.

Position of Plot as per Vastu in Relation to The Road

  • One open plot on one side faces south and has a path in the same direction. Such a path to the south is thought to be a path of Yama (the deity of death), so purchasing such a plot is not advised.
  • Plot with two sides of ways facing south (south and east). This location is regarded favourably. A successful businessman or physician is the owner of such a plot. Here, only one method is used.
  • Three-sided open, south-facing plot with the southern entrance. This location is highly regarded by iron merchants. In such plots, new generations thrive.
  • A one-sided open plot with a north-facing entrance is ideal for homeowners.
  • Middle-class families are especially content in such plots. It has also only one way in.
  • An open plot with three sides and a north-facing entrance is ideal for businesses. On such plots, movie theatres can operate profitably. For hotels and restaurants, it is also perfect. It only has one entrance.
  • A four-sided open plot with a north-facing entrance is perfect for both homeowners and businesspeople. People that live there develop thoroughly. It only has one entrance. open space on one side, with the entrance to the east. Its inhabitants are disease-free for their entire lives.

Shape Of Plot as per Vastu

You must be extremely attentive when choosing a piece of land to consider its shape and any associated omens. The Bhadrakar land shows advantageous in all respects for the occupier in a rectangular shape (with opposite sides equal), a square shape (which provides money), and a circular shape (which yields knowledge).

  • The ideal piece of land for a house is one that is either square or perfectly rectangular. The plot’s four angles must all be precisely 90 degrees. Even though a parallel tetragon possesses all four angles, such plots are not good candidates for building homes.
  • A perfectly rectangular plot is also lucky for building a house, but its length should be 1.5 times more than its width.

In addition to these, plots can be categorized in a wide variety of shapes, however, they are quite unusual.

Slope of Plot – Slope of Land as per Vastu and Its Effects:

According to Vastu texts, the slope of a plot is an important factor which needs to be considered while doing Vastu shastra for plot.

  • Slope towards North: It is auspicious and leads to prosperous descendants.
  • Slope towards Northeast: It yields wealth and jewels.
  • Slope towards East: It attracts wealth and abundance and brings bliss and happiness.
  • Slope towards Southeast: It causes a fear of fire and results in grief.
  • Slope towards South: It is fatal and brings death in the family.
  • Slope towards Southwest: Causes anxiety and fear of theft remains.
  • Slope towards West: Causes conflict and quarrels. Brings grief.
  • Slope in Northwest: It brings death.

A Digmud plot of land – a land which is wayward, is known to destroy future generations.

Slope of Plot as per Genus:

  • Slope of Land in North: Brahmin
  • Slope of Land in East: Kshatriya
  • Slope of Land in South: Vaishya
  • Slope of Land in West: Shudra
Ref: Vastu Raj Vallabh Ch 1 v. 17

Vastu shastra texts state that the slope of land can also be decided by the Type of People or their Social status in Society. This was in olden times where there would be a caste system in society. However, in today’s era, we do not agree or subscribe to this classification and believe in equality and respect everyone equally.

Plot Surroundings as per Vastu

  • A cemetery, mausoleum, crematory, or other places where last rites are performed shouldn’t be too close to the property.
  • Avoid buying land that is near to or directly across from a nursing home or hospital.
  • Any residential, institutional, or commercial use is deemed inappropriate for a plot that is next to or across from a place of worship like a church, temple, or mosque.
  • Avoid a little area that appears squeezed between two larger plots on either side of it. Misfortunes and misery will be drawn to such a scheme.
  • The plot shouldn’t be located near a landfill or other place to dispose of rubbish.
  • The plot shouldn’t be located near a landfill or other place to dispose of rubbish.
  • Avoid a plot close to Cell Towers as they are known to emit harmful Electro-Magnetic Fields or EMF. VastuEnergetics advises a prior conducting an EMF Radiation Audit as it can prove fatal for the inhabitants.

Plot Alignment As per Vastu – Directions of the Plot

The best orientation for the plot is along the North-South or East-West axis with a maximum deviation or variation of 5-degree. A diagonal plan is best avoided if its corners meet in either the E-W or N-S directions. This is a Vastu Dosha known as a Vidisha Vastu. The owner and his family will experience trouble and sorrow because of this plot orientation.

Plot History as per Vastu

According to Vastu, the plot’s history affects its energy dynamics and how it functions – we call it the historical burden of the land! The energy of the land changes once a structure is built on it. Plots that previously housed a cemetery, hospital etc may have unhealthy energies that can seriously harm the people living or working on them. Certain plots where industries did not sustain, where families did not thrive are also considered unfavourable and inauspicious.

Geopathic Stress

It is very important rather a necessity that a Vastu consultant who is also a Geopathic Stress Expert takes Geopathic Stresses into account and conducts a Geopathic Stress audit by way of Geo-Stress mapping before the plot is selected. There are different types of Geopathic Stresses like the Hartmann Grid, Curry Grid, Underground Faults, Crevices, Water Veins, Black Streams, and Negative Ley Lines. Since they are known to affect humans, plants, and animals in a multitude of ways causing harm, geopathic stress remedies must be installed. A structure built on top of such negative earth energy lines is called a Sick-Building.

Conclusion:

The selection of a plot is the first and most important step in Vastu. The flow of energies in a plot is governed by the plot’s location, orientation, shape, slope, soil quality, past history and surrounding areas. One must pay close attention to these factors and seek the guidance from a qualified Vastu expert before buying a plot for desired results.

This will ensure good health, happiness, success, and prosperity.

Hence, these were the main considerations as per Vastu Shastra, that you should take into account before you purchase a Plot.
